Walnut oil! Shoot! I just harvested a lovely mix of heirloom beans from our potager, looked at them, couldn't figure out what I wanted to do to make them special, and just steamed them with some sea salt. Fortunately, we'll have plenty more in a few days so that I can use your walnut oil idea...

I so agree--let the seasonal ingredients shine. We were kitchen-less all summer due to a major tear out/remodel, but all we needed were the gorgeous heirloom tomatoes and Genovese basil, some great olive oil, and bread--we had many no-cook meals straight from the garden.

I'm sadly about to finish your book tonight--hope there is a new one coming soon! Happy weekend!

I chuckled as I read "it is easy to get curmudgeon-y"- I accused Kirk of just the same thing last week, as every morning, on the way to the market as we walked from our little lane on to the main street by Aix's cathedral we had to weave our way between cruise-boat loads of tourists filling the narrow street. You've got to take the (slightly) bitter with the (VERY) sweet, right?!
Thanks for the hint about the prepared whole grain salad - I get the BEST ideas from you!
